Around the World in 8 Stereographs

The DAR Museum invites you to travel the world with Victorian virtual reality! From the mid-nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, stereoscopes were a popular form of entertainment and education in homes and schools. These handheld devices transformed two dimensional photographs into 3-D reality, allowing viewers to see people and places from all over the world at a time when travel was difficult for all but the very wealthy. Come use a stereoscope to see eight stereographs from around the globe and learn how people viewed the world over a century ago!

The event is free, but pre-registration is requested. The event will be on-going throughout the day and is a drop in anytime experience.

Want to see what Americans kept in their homes 200 years ago? The DAR Museum collection includes furniture, dishes, wall art, textiles, and a few weird odds and ends. Just like your home (but our stuff is probably older).

If you're in Washington D.C., stop by and see us!
